Sample Sale Craze!!!
sooo i just hit up the sale myself and it was pretty crazy. here was the first thing i saw when i got there.

this dude is pretty legit. i waited with him in line for a pair of “day of the deads” back in the day.

it appears that he has moved on to bigger and better things. Sabotage with some Starks laces.

while inside, the insanity continued.

this was doug, 30 minutes into the sale.
Mike was sweating bullets, while trying to weave through the madness. He found this Acapulco Gold jacket which got jacked from him while he was checking out. haha

Our dude Kevin was in the mix with his Jordan 1’s.

Nawras and Laura were repping some SIXPACK and MOB.

LIMBOOOOOO!!! was taking anything and everything.

Rocio and Jay (ridgefour) were going crazy with the numbers in the changeroom area.

the checkout line was getting hella hyphy.

Let’s do this again tomorrow!

Drum and Bass is Dead
Â
Our boy, Mr. Douglas Carswell, recently had a chat with one of Bytown’s Veteran D&B Dj Threesixty.
GUNKWHAT: You made a name for yourself in the drum & bass/jungle scene. In terms of the music, where do you see it going globally and locally? Where is it right now? And what changes are needed to make a comeback? Is there room for a comeback?
Mush: Right now, music wise, I think Jungle/Drum & Bass is very stale and forgettable. There are still some people keeping the real vibes alive, but in general the popular sound of D&B is just brutal. As far as the popularity of the scene, it has died down quite a bit here in Ottawa. However, the worldwide scene is growing, albeit much slower than it has been over the years. I’m not sure what D&B needs to make a comeback, I mean, in some people’s minds it’s never been better. I think if there is resurgence it’ll be from the new generation of producers coming up with new sounds and not the same big room, big drop, over the top stuff that’s out there today.
GUNKWHAT: What was your role in the drum and bass scene? What record labels are you affiliated with?
Mush: In Ottawa, I’ve been the type of DJ you could see at pretty much every Jungle/D&B from 97 ’till now. With my best friend and music partner, Roksteady, we produced Ottawa’s first big UK label tunes like Renegade, Vibes, Function and more… We’ve even toured over seas as The Fix. The Fix also hosted our own show for about 2 years on CKCU fm with our good friend Dylan D.
GUNKWHAT: You have a few projects out with fix, and counterweight. High deaf is also in the works as we speak, what roots do they have, and what are you trying to accomplish with them?
Mush: High Deaf is a totally new project I’ve started with an incredibly talented friend of mine named DZ. We are a production duo making Dubstep. Dubstep is a relatively new style of music that has a tempo like 2 Step and Grime but has strong elements of Dub and Drum & Bass. Dubstep has a tempo of around 140 bpm, but is generally halftime and gets its energy from the bass line. Drum and Bass with a tempo much faster at around 175 bpm and gets it’s energy from the beat. Both styles of music can have influences from just about anything, such as Techno, Reggae, Jazz, Rock etc…
GUNKWHAT: In D&B’s early years, the scene kept itself separate from all other Rave crowds by wearing darker, more urban clothes, skipping the signature Raver bracelets and furry bright coats with parachute pants. What do you see as dub steps primary dress code?
Mush: Style wise, Dubstep seems to have a similar urban look to that of a “Junglist” but really just like the music, its influences can come from anywhere. You can find many different looks in the Dubstep scene, but they are generally all stylish.

GUNKWHAT: Where does dub step place as far as a scene globally and locally? Is it big in Canada compared to other countries?
Mush: Canada has a nice piece of the global Dubstep sound, but hopefully with a few more High Deaf releases we’ll get the big piece of chicken.
GUNKWHAT: What upcoming events are you associated with? Project releases? Tours?
Mush: I have a D&B label of my own called Shift. We’re just about to release an album online of The Fix MP3’s called, “The Blair Road Project” and should be available ASAP on all the major pay download sites. My Dub step projects are very exciting right now. High Deaf has our first release titled, “The Boss” coming out on a brand new UK label called Off Road.
GUNKWHAT: Ninjas or Pirates?
Mush: Ninjas!!!!!!!
