JC: For the unknowing, what is FALSE, and what does it entail? When did it all begin?
LM: FALSE was originally an art project conceptualized in early 2005 that just developed organically into a brand. Back to basics, simplicity and capability was and is the idea. From early days purveyors in our industry and the like, we have been doing it the same; starting out simple, basic, doing things off our back. At FALSE we want to continue that throughout the projects existence and stay true to our roots. At the moment the FALSE brand is umbrella to a number of side projects and labels like Better Off Dead, Fallacy Of Rome, FALSE Sounds & FALSE Mag.

JC: The other creator of FALSE is Amanda Scully, who is also your fiancé. What is it like working with your second half to produce these lines?
LM: We took it one step further and are happily married now. We’ve been in the industry working together for quite sometime, I think it has been 6 – 7 years now and it’s all been a once in a lifetime experience.
JC: FALSE has a few “brands within a brand”, are they all considered priority, or are certain lines taking precedence over others?
LM: They are definitely all considered priority. Each of them serves a different role that is vital to the livelihood of the entire FALSE body.

JC: We are soon going to see our first collection from Better Off Dead in the store, Jacob the Murderer. What can we expect from the line, and will there be a continuation of it in coming seasons? Was there a theme with this collection?
I’m very excited about that; it’s one of our boldest lines to begin with. The Better Off Dead brand was presented because of its ability to speak its mind in bolder shapes and messages. The collection is an ongoing narration to feelings of the anarchist in our society and culture.

JC: FALSE is proud to be a company that believes in producing each piece in the collection by hand, literally pouring your own “blood, sweat and tears” into each piece. Has there ever been a point when you’ve considered the use of printing machines to produce these collections?
This has been our philosophy at FALSE brand from the start, it has garnered us a unique type of fan base and a passion based structure that has seen us grow stronger and stronger from day 1. We have had thoughts of going to printers for a while due to demands we sometimes cannot hit on our own but every time we end up back in the same spot, passion over creation and craft. There’s nothing like a freshly hand-screened tee, that uniqueness cannot be replaced. We also are OCD freaks and just love to be in full control of a production run and it’s one of the most fulfilling things in the world. We figure we up our manpower at the FALSE HQ should the demands far supercede our control.

JC: Lupe Fiasco is a big supporter of FALSE, how did this all come about?
LM: He was a big supporter of our brand from the get go from our very early years. One day over email I invited him to Singapore for a design conference we were apart of for the courteous fun of it, and he actually said yes and got on a plane and came all this way with his then manager Jason. We all just hit it off and till this day we’re like family.
JC: You produced a song on Lupe’s “The Cool”. How much time do you spend producing music? Does FALSE get in the way of creating music, or vice versa? Do you find that one inspires the other?
LM: Yeah I really enjoyed that, Lupe pushed me back into making beats again and before I know it I’m on a Grammy nominated album! I spend about the same time on each and I think they both really compliment each other perfectly.

JC: What’s next for FALSE? What can people be on the lookout for real soon?
LM: Something big and out of the box we’ve been working on, and is going to be dropping for the Christmas season this year 2009 is called “FALSE STASHER” Keep a look and ear out!
Thanks for your time, Norml is excited to see the “Jacob the Murderer” collection drop, all these styles and more available in the store now!
